Craft, industrialised — not hollowed out.

Ambala has been India’s scientific glassblowing town since the 1940s, when instrument makers displaced by Partition settled around its railway junction and started pulling glass. Vitreon began four decades later as one of its smallest workshops — six people, one lathe, and a contract for university burettes.

What we industrialised was the process. What we refused to industrialise was the standard: a piece of volumetric glassware is a measuring instrument, and an instrument whose stated accuracy cannot be defended is a lie with a graduation mark. That conviction eventually became our calibration laboratory, then our NABL accreditation, then the serialisation line, and finally the public registry where any customer can check any serial we have ever issued.

Today the third generation runs the works. The lampwork stations still sit forty metres from the five-figure balances — craft and metrology within shouting distance, which is roughly our entire management philosophy.
